Exponential Formula for Bedload Transport
An exponential formula that does not involve the concept of the critical shear stress is derived in this study for computing bedload transport rates. The formula represents well various experimental data sets ranging from the weak transport to high shear conditions. Comparisons of the present study are also made with many previous bedload formulas commonly cited in the literature.
متن کاملAnalysis of bedload transport in laminar flows
Bedload transport generally depends on the bed shear stress and Reynolds number. Many studies conducted for the condition of turbulent flows have revealed the dependence of the transport rate on the bed shear stress, while knowledge of the Reynolds number effect on the transport rate is very limited. As an extreme case to reflect the viscous effect on sediment transport, sediment transport in l...
متن کاملBedload transport in shallow water models: why splitting (may) fail, how hyperbolicity (can) help
In this paper, we are concerned with models for sedimentation transport consisting of a shallow water system coupled with a so called Exner equation that described the evolution of the topography. We show that, for some model of the bedload transport rate including the well-known Meyer-Peter and Müller model, the system is hyperbolic and, thus, linearly stable, only under some constraint on the...

متن کاملDense granular flow rheology in turbulent bedload transport
The local granular rheology is investigated numerically in turbulent bedload transport. Considering spherical particles, steady uniform configurations are simulated using a coupled fluid-discrete-element model. The stress tensor is computed as a function of the depth for a series of simulations varying the Shields number, the specific density and the particle diameter. The results are analyzed ...
